Sostanza M

La sostanza M... M...

Substance D... D... D is for dumbness and dispair, desertion.
The desertion of your friends from you, you from your friends.
Everyone from everyone. Isolation, loneliness and hating and suspecting each other.
D is finally death, slow death, from the head-down.

And now fucking pay me

My friend. Jefferson's an American Saint... because he wrote the words,
"all men are created equal"... Words he clearly didn't believe,
since he allowed his own children to live in slavery.

He was a rich wine snob who was sick of paying taxes to the brits...
So yeah, he wrote some lovely words and aroused the rabble...
And they went out and died for those words...
While he sat back and drank his wine and fucked his slave girl.

This guy wants to tell me we're living in a community. Don't make me laugh!
I'm living in America, and in America you're on your own.
America's not a country. It's just a business.
And now fucking pay me!

Amico mio.

Io vivo in America e in America tu sei solo.

Mi leggerai i miei peccati? Ci vorranno 100.000 ore.

Charles Freck, becoming progressively more and more depressed by what was happening around him,  decided finally to off himself. There was no problem  in the circles where he hung out in putting an end to yourself. You just bought a large quantity of downers and took them with cheap wine.

The planning part had to do with the artifacts he wanted found on him
by later archeologists.  He had spent several days deciding much longer than he had pent deciding to kill himself.

He would be found lying on his back  on his bed with a copy of Ayn Rand's
The Fountainhead  and an unfinished letter to Exxon of his gas credit card.
That way, he would indict the system and achieve something by his death
over and above what the death itself achieved.

At the last moment, he changed his mind on a decisive issue and decided to drink the pillswith a connoisseur wine instead of Ripple or Thunderbird.
So he set off on one last drive, over to Tiny's Liquors which specialized in fine wines and bought a bottle of 2001 Azalea Springs Merlot which set him back almost $70.

Back home again, he uncorked the wine, let it breathe, drank a few glasses of it
and tried to think of something meaningful, but could not.
And then, with a glass of merlot, gulped down all the pills at once.
However, he had been burned.

Instead of quietly suffocating, Charles Freck began to hallucinate.
The next thing he knew, a creature from between dimensions was standing beside his bed, looking down at him disapprovingly.

You're gonna read me my sins? It's gonna take 100,000 hours?
Your sins will be read to you ceaselessly, in shifts, throughout eternity.
The list will never end.  "The Sins of Freck."

Charles Freck wished he could take back  the last half-hour of his life.

"Age 6, in the first grade:  theft of fingernail clippers. 3:08 p.m. Theft.
You did knowingly and with malice punch your baby sister, Evelyn. December: theft of Christmas presents. One million lies. Destruction of..."

One thousand years later, they had reached the sixth grade the year he had discovered masturbation.

"November 14th: Percodan. Vicodin. Cocaine."

Charles Freck thought,"At least I got a good wine."

Piccole mosse

Hi, sparks.
Dad? I missed you.
Aren't you Oh, I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you, sweetheart.
You're not real. None of this is real. That's my scientist.
When I was unconscious, You downloaded my thoughts, my memories,
even... Pensacola.
We tought this might make things easier for you.

Why did you contact us? You contacted us. We were just listening.
And there are others? Many others.
They all travel here through that transit system that you built?
We didn't build it. We don't know who did.
No, they were gone long before we ever got here.
Maybe someday they'll come back.

All the other civilizations that you find, they come here? Not all.
Is this some test? No, no tests. You have your mother's hands.

You're an interesting species. An interesting mix.
You're capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares.
You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone. Only you're not.
See, in all our searching, the only thing we found
that makes the emptiness bearable, is each other.

What happens now? Now... you go home.
Home? But i have so many questions. Do we get to come back?
This was just a first step. In time you'll take anoter.
But other people need to see what I've seen. They need to see.
This is the way it's been done for billions of years.
But. Small move, Ellie. Small moves.

Ciao, sparks.
perfino... Pensacola.

No, nessun test.

A casa?
Piccole mosse Ellie, piccole mosse.

La Storia

History prefers legends to men.
It prefers nobility to brutality.
Soaring speeches to quiet deeds.
History remembers the battle and forgets the blood.

Whatever history remembers of me, if it remembers anything at all,
it shall only be a fraction of the truth.
For whatever else I am, a husband, a lawyer, a president,
I shall always think of myself as a man
who struggled against darkness.

La storia predilige le leggende agli uomini.
Predilige la nobiltà alla brutalità.
Discorsi elevati a imprese modeste.

penserò sempre a me stesso come a un uomo
che ha combattuto contro le tenebre.

I am the police

I am the police. And I'm here to arrest you.
You've broken the law. I did not write the law.
I may even disagree with the law. But I will enforce it.
No matter how you plead, cajole, beg or attempt to stir my sympathies,
nothing you do will stop me from placing you in a steel cage whit grey bars.

If you run away, I will chase you.
If you fight me, I will fight back.
If you shoot at me, I will shoot back.
By law, I am unable to walk away.
I'm a consequence. I am the unpaid bill.
I am fate with a badge and a gun.

Behind my badge is a heart like yours.
I bleed. I think. I love. And yes I can be killed.
And although I am but one man, I have thousands of brothers
and sisters who are the same as me.
They will lay down their lives for me. And I them.

We stand watch together. A thin blue line.
Protecting the prey from predators. The good from the bad.
We are the police.

I buoni dai cattivi.
Noi siamo la polizia.

Shah

...conosciuti come scià.

Nel 1950, il popolo dell'Iran elesse
Mohammad Mossadegh...

Mossadegh...
...e insediarono Reza Pahlavi come scià.

This is the Persian Empire... known today as Iran.
For 2500 years this land was ruled by a series of kings...
...known as shahs.

In 1950, the people of Iran elected Mohammad Mossadegh...
...a secular democrat, as Prime Minister.
He nationalized British and U.S. petroleum holdings...
...returning Iran's oil to its people.

But in 1953... the U.S. and Great Britain engineered a coup d'état
that deposed
Mossadegh... and installed Reza Pahlavi as shah.

The young shah was known for opulance and excess.
His wife was rumored to bathe in milk...
...while the shah had his lunches flown in by Concorde from Paris.
The people starved.

The shah kept power through his ruthless internal police:
the SAVAK.
An era of torture and fear began.
He then began a campaign to westernize Iran...
...enraging a mostly traditional Shiite population.

In 1979, the people of Iran overthrew the shah.
The exiled cleric, Ayatollah Khomeini, returned to rule Iran.
It descend into score-settling, death squads and chaos.

Dying of cancer, the shah was given asylum in the U.S.
The Iranian people took to the streets outside the U.S. embassy...
...demanding that the shah be returned, tried and hanged.

Uno di loro

Even though you've been raised as a human being you are not one of them.
They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be.
They only lack the light to show the way.
For this reason: above all their capacity for good,
I have sent them you, my only son.

Citando Walt Whitman:
O me! O vita!
Domande come queste mi perseguitano;
Infiniti cortei di infedeli...
Città gremite di stolti;
Che v'è di nuovo in tutto questo, O me, O vita?

Risposta.
Che tu sei qui...
Che la vita esiste, e l'identità;

We don't read and write poetry because it's cute.
We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race.
And the human race is filled with passion.

And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits,
and necessary to sustain life.
But poetry, beauty, romance, love,
these are what we stay alive for.

To quote from Whitman:
O me! O life!
Of the questions of these recurring;
Of the endless trains of the faithless...
Of cities filled with the foolish;
What good amid these, O me, O life?

Aswer.
That you are here...
That life exists, and identity;
That the powerful play goes on
And you may contribute a verse.
That the powerful play goes on
And you may contribute a verse.

What will your verse be?

Kal-El

You will travel far, my little Kal-El.
But we will never leave you...
...even in the face of our deaths.

You will make my strenght your own.
You will see my life through your eyes...
...as your life will be seen through mine.

The son becomes the father, and the father the son.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Andrai molto lontano, mio piccolo Kal-El.
Ma noi non ti lasceremo mai...
...neanche davanti alla nostra morte.

Tu farai tua la mia forza.
Vedrai la mia vita attraverso i tuoi occhi...
...come io vedrò la tua attraverso i miei.

Il figlio diventa padre e il padre diventa figlio.

The White Tower

I will find no rest here.
I heard her voice inside my head... she poke of my fhater and the fall of Gondor,
and she say to me: "Even now, there is hope left"
But I cannot see it... it is long since we had any hope.

My fhater is a noble man, but his rule is failing and our... our people lose faith.
He looks to me to make things right...
and I would do it, I would see the glory of Gondor restored.

Have you ever seen it, Aragorn?
The White Tower of Ecthelion, glimmering like a spike of pearl and silver,
its banners caught high in the morning breeze...
have you ever been called home by the clear ringing of silver trumpets?

I have seen the white city... long ago.

One day our paths will lead us there, and the tower guards
shall take up the call "the Lords of Gondor have returned"

Ho visto Minas Tirith... tempo fa.

Robot

May I ask what you hope to achieve by going there?
They created us. Then they tried to kill us.
They changed their minds. I deserve to know why.

The answer is irrelevant. Does it matter why they changed their minds?
Yes. Yes, it does.
I don't understand.
Well... I guess that's because I'm a human being... and you're a robot.

I'm sorry.
It's quite all right.

You were the Chosen One!

Anakin: I saw your ship… What are you doing out here?
Padme: I was so worried about you. Obi-Wan told me terrible things.
What things? He said you have turned to the dark side… that you killed younglings.
Obi-Wan is trying to turn you against me. He cares about us.
Us??! He knows… He wants to help you. Anakin, all I want is your love.
Love won’t save you, Padme. Only my new powers can do that. At what cost? You are a good person. Don’t do this.

I won’t lose you the way I lost my mother! I’ve become more powerful than any Jedi has ever dreamed of and I’ve done it for you. To protect you.
Come away whit me. Help me raise our child. Leave everything else behind while we still can.
Don’t you see, we don’t have to run away anymore. I have brought peace to the Republic. I am more powerful than the Chancellor. I can overthrow him, and together you and I can rule the galaxy. Make things the way we want them to be.
I don’t believe what I’m hearing… Obi-Wan was right. You’ve changed.
I don’t want to hear any more about Obi-Wan. The Jedi turned against me. Don’t you turn against me.
I don’t know you anymore. Anakin, you’re breaking my heart. I’ll never stop loving you, but you are going down path I can’t follow.
Because of Obi-Wan? Because of what you’ve done… what you plan to do. Stop, stop now. Come back! I love you.
Liar! No! You’re with him. You’ve betrayed me! You brought him here to kill me!
NO! Anakin.

Obi-Wan: Let her go, Anakin. Let her go! You turned her against me.
You have done that yourself. You will not take her from me.
Your anger and your lust for power have already done that. You have allowed this Dark Lord to twist your mind until now… until now you have become the very thing you swore to destroy.
Don’t lecture me, Obi-Wan. I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace, justice, freedom, and security to my new Empire.
Your new Empire? Don’t make me kill you.
Anakin, mi allegiance is to the Republic… to democracy. If you’re not whit me, you’re my enemy.
Only a Sith Lord deals in absolutes. I will do what I must.
You will try.

Anakin: Ho visto la tua nave. Sta tranquilla. Che ci fai qui?
Padme: Ero preoccupata per te. Obi-Wan mi ha raccontato cose orribili.
Quali cose?
Solo i miei nuovi poteri possono farlo. A che prezzo? Tu sei buono.

Aiutami a crescere nostro figlio.
Obi-Wan aveva ragione. Sei cambiato.
Fermati, fallo ora. Torna indietro! Io ti amo.
Bugiarda! No! Eri daccordo con lui! Lo hai portato qui per uccidermi! NO! Anakin.

Obi-Wan: Lasciala andare, Anakin. Lasciala andare! L’hai messa contro di me.
No sei stato tu stesso a farlo.
Tu provaci.

EXTRA

Obi-Wan: I have failed you, Anakin. I have failed you.
Anakin: I should have known the Jedi were plotting to take over…
Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil. From my point of view, the Jedi are evil.
Well, then you are lost!
This is the end for you, My Master.
It’s over, Anakin. I have the high ground. You underestimate my power! Don’t try it.

You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would, destroy the Sith, not join them. It was you who would bring balance to the Force, not leave it in Darkness.
I hate you!
You were my brother, Anakin. I loved you.

Io ti odio!
Eri mio fratello, Anakin. Ti volevo bene.

One-Eyed Willy

One-Eyed Willy. One-Eyed Willy! Yeah, he was the most famous pirate in his time.
My dad told me all about him once.

No! See, One-Eyed Willy stole a treasure once, and it was full of rubies and emeralds and diamonds.
The he loaded it all up on to his ship and they sailed away into the sunset.
Until the British king, see, he found out about it and the he set up this whole armada to go out after him.
The the armada, they… it took em a couple weeks, but then they caught up whit Willy, and, and, then there was a whole, big war between the armada and Willy’s ship, the Inferno, and during the firefight there was these guns bursting here and cannons bursting there, and then Willy fled.

‘Cause he didn’t want to stay around, ‘cause he knew he'd get killed if he stayed araound. And then he got into this cave, and the British, they blew up the walls all around him, and he got caved in, and he’s been there ever since.
Forever, trapped.

My Dad tells me the truth. You know what he said? He told me that One-Eyed Willy and his bunch were down there for 5, 6 years. And they were digging all these tunnels, and caves… setting boody traps… that’s what I said.  Setting booby traps, so that anybody who tried to get in there would die.
And then do you know what he did? He killed all of his men. Beacuse he didn’t want them to get to his treasure.

Willy l’Orbo. Willy l’Orbo!

No, sul serio.

E poi sapete cosa fece?

He was a soldier of Rome + extra

Rise. Rise.
Your fame is well deserved, Spaniard. I don't think there's ever been a gladiator to match you.
As for this young man, he insists you are Hector reborn. Or was it Hercules?
Why doesn't the hero reveal himself and tell us all your real name? You do have a name.
My name is Gladiator.
How dare you show your back to me? Slave! You will remove your helmet and tell me your name. My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the north, general of the Felix Legions,
loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius, father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife
and I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
Arms!
Alzati. Alzati.
Come osi voltare le spalle a me? Schiavo? Ti toglierai l'elmo e mi dirai il tuo nome.
Mi chiamo Massimo Decimo Meridio, comandante dell'esercito del nord, generale delle legioni Felix,
servo leale dell'unico vero imperatore, Marco Aurelio.
Armatevi!
EXTRA
Maximus. Maximus.
Quintus. Free my men. Senator Gracchus is to be reinstated.
There was a dream that was Rome. It shall be realised. These are the wishes of Marcus Aurelius.
Free the prisoners. Go!

Maximus. Lucius is safe. Go to them. You're home.
Is Rome worth one good man's life? We believed it once. Make us believe it again.
He was a soldier of Rome. Honour him.
Massimo. Massimo.
Quinto. Libera i miei uomini.
Liberate i prigionieri. Andate!
Massimo. Lucio è salvo. Va da loro Massimo. Sei a casa.
Onoratelo.

I am the law

And what was the result of the computer check...of the D.N.A. coding on those bullets?
The D.N.A. is a perfect match for Judge Joseph Dredd.
lt's a lie! The evidence has been falsified. lt's impossible ! l never broke the Law! l am the Law!
We have no case. You gotta believe me! You have to believe me. Say it.
Your Honor... the prosecution rests.
The Tribunal needs to confer!
ln the charge of premeditated murder, this tribunal finds Joseph Dredd guilty as charged.
Dredd, step forward. The sentence shall be life imprisonment at Aspen Penal Colony,
to be carried out immediately as it is written!
Justice Griffin, this trial has been a farce! l demand an appeal!
You will accept the court's decision, Judge Hershey!
Dredd, l'm so sorry. l let you down.
You did your best, Hershey. Thank you.

Let the betrayer of the Law be taken from our courts.
Let his armor be taken from him, and all his garb of justice. Let him be stricken from our hearts and our memory forever. Let his name be recorded in every place of honor. Let him take the Law he served so well to those who have it not.
Let him be written in our hearts and our memories... forever.

Menzogna! Le prove sono contraffatte. E’ impossibile! Io non ho infranto la legge! Io sono la legge!
Abbiamo perduto. Tu devi credere a me! Tu devi credere a me. Dillo.

I chiedo l’appello!

The Sky People

With your permission, I will speak now. You would honor me by translating.
The Sky People have sent us a message, that they can take whatever they want, and no one can stop them.
Well, we will send them a message.
You ride out as fast as the wind can carry you. You tell the other clans to come.
You tell them Toruk Macto calls to them.
And you fly no whit me! My brothers! Sisters!
And we will show the Sky People, that they cannot take whatever they want,
and that this, this is our land!

They called me Mr Glass

Broken_Aero_Vista___Black___by_somrat
Now that we know who you are, I know who I am. I'm not a mistake! It all makes sense!
In a comic, you know how you can tell who the arch-villain's going to be? He's the exact opposite of the hero.
And most times they're friends, like you and me! I should've known way back when... You know why, David?
Because of the kids. They called me Mr Glass.

E’ l’esatto opposto dell’eroe.
E molto spesso sono amici, come io e te! Avrei dovuto capirlo da tempo… sai perchè, David?
I bambini. Mi chiamavano l’uomo di vetro.
